Technically, each gram of the otibiotic ointment contains gentamicin sulfate USP equivalent to 3 mg gentamicin base betamethasone valerate, USP equivalent to 1 mg betamethasone and 10 mg clotrimazole, USP in a mineral oil-based system containing a plasticized hydrocarbon gel.
Otibiotic Ointment for Cats / Dogs Ear Infection Dosage
For use, clean out the external ear thoroughly dry it before treatment. Remove all foreign material, debris, crusted exudate, etc. with suitable non-irritating solutions. Clip out all excessive hair in the ear. Verify that the eardrum is intact and then put four drops or 2 drops from the 215 g bottle of the Otibiotic ointment two times daily into the ear canal of your dog if it weighs less than 30 pounds. If your dog weighs 30 pounds or more, instill eight drops and four drops daily from the 215 g bottle twice daily. This therapy should continue for seven days in a row.
The otibiotic ointment is useful in dogs but not in dogs with ruptured eardrums nor pregnant dogs. Also make sure that your dog is not allergic to aminoglycoside antibiotic gentamicin sulfate, an adrenocorticoid betamethasone, and antifungal agent clotrimazole or any of the generic products.
