Your dog is such a wonderful piece of joy in your home. He has his own ways to make you feel loved. Each time, he surprises you with his immense love and care, that you feel so much special. Yeah truly, its a wonderful feeling. But what if your furry friend has a bad breath and he is a dog that likes to be in your face? Well, that doesn’t sound good. It might affect the bonding between you both. Thankfully, there are natural ways to get rid of stinky dog breath. Following 6 tips will really make a difference for you and your dog.

  • Less plaque build up
  • More pleasant breath
  • Soothing of the gums
  • Avoid giving your dog smelling treats: Most dog dry foods that are available on the sore are pretty mild in scent. Treats on the other hand can sometimes be stinky. Stinky dog treats can make your dog stink badly.
  • Assess what you are up against: See to it that your dog’s teeth is healthy and away from bacteria and germs. If you can see a brown calculus on the teeth anywhere in the mouth, it means that you need to take him to the vet as home treatments cannot help you from this. Check with your vet and make sure your doggies teeth is clean. This will help your dog from bad breath.
  • Brush his teeth: Although its a hectic task to brush your dog’s teeth as he won’t feel good to put a brush inside his mouth, brushing his teeth at least once daily can improve his dental health. By brushing his teeth every day, you can remove the plague and stimulate blood flow to the gums. This helps to limit bad breath and reduce dental disease and pain. Make sure you are using only dog toothpaste and human toothpaste if swallowed by the dog can cause vomiting.
  • Use mouth fresheners or rinsers to flush out his mouth: There are many products designed to flush out the food residue from your dog’s mouth and to improve his breath. The mouth freshening sprays will be of great help as they help in improving the overall dental hygiene.
  • Water additives: There are food and water additives that help maintain a slick and smooth surface on the tooth enamel. This helps to keep your dog’s teeth stay protected from plague. There are also enzyme powders that can be added to food to help encourage dental immunity and fight tartar build-up. Do a trial to ensure that your dog will not stop drinking water or eating the food with the additive in it.
  • Use a breath freshening treat or look for dental chews: Dental chews like Minties Bones from Vet IQ are chews that help reduce plague and tartar build up in your dog’s teeth. These mouth freshening chews clean your dog’s teeth and freshens his breath. They come in different sizes based on your dog’s weight. They have a gentle toothpaste like smell which smells fresh. If you are not sure of giving him the right dental chews, you can ask for your vet’s advice. Ask him for dental chews that are best suited for your dog.

I hope these simple tips can help you to get rid of bad breath from your dog. Give them a try and feel the difference.

Brushing Your Dog’s Teeth Done Easier With These 5 Simple Tips

  • Less plaque build up
  • More pleasant breath
  • Soothing of the gums

The new numbers say that roughly 70% of dogs over the age of 2 have some form of dental issues. These include discolored teeth, loose teeth, swollen gums – all of which may lead to pain while chewing food or eating. Being a dog owner, its your job to treat his dental issues promptly. If your dog is diagnosed at the right time, dental diseases can damage the liver, kidneys and heart of your pet.

I know many dog owners who really find it hard to brush their dog’s teeth every day. In fact, brushing your dog’s teeth regularly can reduce the risk of oral diseases as well as ailments relating to digestive, respiratory and even urinary systems. If you have a cute little pup and is looking for some help to get started with brushing, or have an older one that runs away when you take the brush, here are some helpful tips to make this process a little bit easier.

  • Be patient: Many dogs are never taught to have their mouths looked at or examined regularly. This is why they are against getting their teeth cleaned. If you have the patience and time, you can teach him handle this situation. Whether you need to start by rewarding your dog for touching his mouth or you are able to brush his few tooth at a time; there is really no harm in going slowly. It will take time to work on brushing your dog’s entire teeth. Practice by doing a few teeth or one side of the mouth a day. Patience always brings in results.
  • Check with a veterinarian: If you had not brushed your dog’s teeth for so long, it is better to start off with a veterinarian. A professional veterinarian will tell you where your dog stands now as far as oral health goes and discuss a schedule to set up regular brushing at home. Talk with your vet about a necessary schedule and remember that a yearly dental cleaning is still recommended even with home brushing. Your vet can also help you in demonstrating on how to brush your dog’s teeth if you are not sure.
  • Use your fingers: While your fingers may not be as good as using a toothbrush, they can certainly help get any extra plague and tartar off of your dog’s teeth. Your dog would not probably not like a tooth brush being put inside his mouth, but he would like his owner sticking her fingers in his mouth. So you don’t have to worry about not being able to brush his teeth with a toothbrush. There is nothing wrong in putting a little toothpaste on your fingers and getting the job done that way. Make sure to wear gloves while brushing his teeth with your fingers.
  • Set a schedule: When you set reminders for wishing your friend’s birthday or for waking up early in the morning, why is it so difficult to set reminder for cleaning your pet’s teeth? Setting an alarm on your phone or clock can really help you keep track of when you brush his teeth, especially when you are not going to do it everyday. Going on a schedule is a great way to keep your dog healthy from oral health problems.
  • Offering him dental chews: Giving him something to chew is a great way to help keep your dog’s oral health in good shape. Although giving him to chew on safe chews won’t give the results as that of brushing his teeth weekly, but they can certainly help get the tough tartar and plague off of their teeth, which won’t easily come off with brushing. With safe observed chewing, dogs actually tend to enjoy this way of cleaning their teeth.

4 Foods That Help Remedy Dog Bad Breath Naturally

I didn’t know that these 4 foods that help remedy dog bad breath naturally was really effective

You know, dog bad breath is a common problem but yet many people opt to ignore it until the last stage? Two years back, my poodle Ginger, one year old at that time, started having smelly breath. I did some extra care in cleaning its teeth but the problem persisted. Like others, I was a big fan of internet and surfed all that I could find out. I was aiming to find a solution other than the drugs or chemicals. There were many natural remedies.

Recommended Dog Foods

It was not until 4 months that I could boast that, see the difference? May be I was giving her too low. Anyways, what matters is that I got positive results. Here are those 4 miraculous veggies that helped by Ginger get her sweet breath back.

Carrot was the most doubtful of all these remedies. It was supposed to scrub the tartar from the canine’s teeth, while it crunches it. It also helps produce more saliva to wash down the bacteria. The vitamins and other nutrients in them were added advantage. Ginger loved the baby carrots and was ready to have 2 or more at a time. Initially I did the mistake of giving her the cooked carrots. I put the carrots in boiling water for a while, I was not supposed to. The 3rd day on wards I did right by providing her the raw carrots with all its crunchiness.

Lemon seemed to be the easiest of all. I squeezed the juice of half a lemon in to her drinking water. With lemon I was careful to start low in dose and increase it gradually. I started with adding a teaspoon of lemon juice in one gallon of water and checked if she picked up the taste different. She didn’t and I continued to add more amount of lemon juice into the water. I also used this lime water to clean her teeth.

I used mint in her crackers. I am a lazy person and used the ready to use salt free crackers for canines from shop. Crunch these crackers and mix it with a quarter cup of mint leaves. Chop the leaves well to help in thorough mixing. Add a little water to this mix, little at a time to bind it together. Take out the dough little by little into small balls or in any shape. Once you have used the entire dough, place these in a wax paper and it goes into the freezer. Once it is set, you have the mint crackers that cure the bad breath in dogs. I also tried the iced mint tea. She was ok with it as long as it is ice shaped. The liquid form, she didn’t prefer.

Parsley is the controversial one among these natural bad breath remedies. There were different schools of thoughts. One said it was ok for the dogs while the others had the opinion that it is not. As long as the leaves help reduce the bad breath, who is complaining, not me. I left all the debate to the scientists. I knew parsley could not be bad my beauty and I tried. Guess what, it might have worked. The supposed antibacterial activity of parsley leaves has killed the bad breath causing bacteria.

All these vegetables helped remove the tartar and other food particles from the dog’s teeth to make its oral cavity cleaner. It also worked with the digestive system it seems. Since both oral care and digestive system are the main culprits for bad breath, these veggies might have done their work well to get me positive results. Now my Ginger has non-smelly breath, I am still continuing with the lime water and occasional mint tea cubes. I must say that I am relieved and happy. I couldn’t ask for more.
